Description

Studying Penn avenue, we found that it was a street enriched with queer culture, inclusivity and authentic cultural beauty. The first standout pillar of joy was the LGBT Ministry of East Liberty Presbyterian Church. The architectural phenomenon and inclusive place of worship, hosts a variety of lively and wonderful programs to empower queer youth of surrounding communities. Partnering with other LGBT organizations such as the Kelly Strayhorn theater to deliver more outreach.

Kelly Staryhorn theater has been another major major major cultural node of Penn avenue since 1914. Being a pillar of black and queer culture, it has continued to shower its surroundings with entertainment, events and outreach to the youth, with its amazing entertainment, KST brought a unique queer culture and vibrance to Penne avenue.

However, due to the rigors of corporate greed, Kelly Strayhorn Theater is currently facing threats of displacement. KST is at risk of losing its strong presence on Penn avenue, and with it the culture, vibrancy and strong community that it provides. In order to make a case to preserve the exuberance, culture and community that the theater provides; we aim to create a warning that illustrates the possibilities of KST outside of physical and capitalistic bounds. Further illustrating the importance of KST in the development of the neighborhood, we aim to articulate a rallying cry and finally propose a mobile and mobilizing infrastructure for its continuing outreach.
